Gerry Cao

Gerry Cao, Graphic Design Major from LaSalle Art College, Vancouver. Established the HODD STUDIO of photography in Shanghai in 2021. His first foray into photography began 8 years ago. He had traveled to Canada, the USA and various other countries to photograph and study. He was invited to report by Wall Street Journal media, and his works have been collected by the Canton-Sadine Gallery. His photographic works have been published in VOGUE magazine, and album posters have been used for the Chinese local band Seven Joys.

Xiao ZHANG

Born in 1981 in Yantai city, Shandong province, China, Zhang Xiao graduated from the Department of Architecture and Design at Yantai University in 2005. He was a photojournalist for Chongqing Morning Post. Zhang won the Robert Gardner Fellow in Photography of Harvard University in 2018. He won the Three Shadows Photography Award in 2010 with They series. He also received the second Hou Dengke Documentary Photography Award in 2009, The Photography Talent Award (France) in 2010 and the Prix HSBC pour la Photographie in 2011 with his Coastline series. Zhang has participated in several solo and group exhibitions, including “ The World in 2015 ”, “Civilization: The Way We Live Now”( Ullens Centre for Contemporary Art, Beijing, China), “ Unfamiliar Familiarities ” , ( Fotostiftung Schweiz ,Winterthur, Switzerland), “ Photoquai ”，(Quai Branly Museum，Paris，France ), and “ Apple ”, ( Lianzhou Photography Museum, Guangdong, China), “ Social Geography: Ten Journeys with a Camera , (Shanghai Centre of Photography ,Shanghai , China) , “ Photography and Video Experiments in Southwestern China since 2000 ” , (A4 Art Museum ,Chengdu , China) , “The Farm”, (chi k11 Art Space, Shenyang, China), etc. Zhang currently lives and works in Chengdu city, Sichuan province, China.

Zhao SUN

Zhao SUN, born in 1985 in Xi’an, China, lives and works in Paris. He started photography at the age of 16 and studied at the Xi’an Academy of Fine Arts, graduating in 2007. Since then, he moved to France and continued his studies at the National School of Photography in Arles from 2007 to 2008, and then at the Paris School of Fine Arts in the Patrick Faigenbaum / Marc Pataut studio from 2010 to 2014. Zhao SUN is interested in places, cities, urban environments, and territories. He works on the city of Paris in a personal and poetic manner. He prefers analog photography, deeply attached to the artisanal nature and the darkroom process that slowly brings about surprises and revelations.

 

“Photography, for me, is an instrument of observation par excellence, to know where we live and where we would like to live, an ideal tool to grasp human relationships. When we look at a photographic image, it is not the image itself that we look at, but through the image, what is there, and what is happening in the image. That is to say, events that are analogous to prose poems. Photography becomes interesting when the work is broader than the photograph itself, when there is an additional element. This element, in the case of my images, is undoubtedly a form of poetry. I always try to find a balance and harmony between the event and the environment, between man and his territory.”
