Leah Zhang
Leah Zhang (张紫璇), born 1992 in Shandong, is a graduate of Rhode Island School of Design with a MFA in Photography. Her work is a research practice around film, photography and sound. Leah is concerned with the materiality of images, the ontology of media, the subject of looking, and the complexities of visual transfiguration, along with its social implications. In recent years, she has been making works centered on extraction and alchemy, both as themes and as thought processes, reflecting upon the embodied nature in a politicized Anthropocene. Leah’s works have been exhibited internationally, including at Times Museum in Guangzhou, Modern Art Museum in Shanghai, Framer Framed in Amsterdam, Make Room in Los Angeles, and ClampArt in New York. She is an artist-in-residence at De Ateliers and Le Fresnoy. She currently lives and works in Amsterdam.
