Harry Gruyaert
At the age of 20, after studying at the Brussels School of Film and Photography, Harry Gruyaert decided to leave his native Belgium and move to Paris.
A press photographer, he discovered his fascination with colours during his first trip to Morocco. This experience sparked his desire to travel the world to better understand it and express it through photography.
‘To find the unique image, the powerful image, the one that attracts, Harry Gruyaert uses a slower, documentary approach.’
He then became interested in contemporary themes such as pop art and television. In 1972, he produced his series of photographs entitled TV Shots. He paints a portrait of the world with pop accents and, through his photographs, raises real questions about modernity and everyday life.
A member of the Magnum agency since 1981, Harry Gruyaert spent more than thirty years travelling the world before returning to his native country.
