Réserve Spéciale Pauillac

The Réserve Spéciale Pauillac is made primarily from a blend that combines wines from properties in the Pauillac appellation. It is created with the greatest possible respect for tradition, in a similar style to the Châteaux wines, but for more immediate drinking.

  • Vintage 2014

    • 70% Cabernet Sauvignon
    • 30% Merlot

    The summer of 2014 was rather gloomy, characterized by a lack of sunshine and low temperatures, but then beautiful weather arrived in the entire region in early September and remained for several weeks (until the end of October), saving the vintage. The Indian summer gave the vines optimal ripening conditions, and the grapes reached a balance between sugar, acidity and phenols worthy of a great vintage. The Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc benefited from the superb late season and offered excellent quality in 2014.


    Colour: Intense ruby.
    Nose: Subtle and elegant, with scents of dried fruit (figs), black pepper and woody notes (cocoa powder).
    Palate: A powerful, finely structured wine, with well-integrated tannins and a long aromatic finish (black pepper, liquorice).

  • Vintage 2012

    • 70% Cabernet Sauvignon
    • 30% Merlot

    2012 was a difficult vintage that presented numerous challenges in the vineyard. After a harsh winter, the cool spring slowed down flowering, which was spread over a fairly long period. Violent hailstorms hit some vineyards on 24 April. Fertilisation was hampered by the rain in early June, resulting in flower abortion and uneven grape size, and therefore lower yields. The wet weather and lack of sunshine continued until mid-July but then August and early September were hot and dry, with a substantial variation between day and night-time temperatures, finally enabling the grapes to reach a satisfactory degree of ripeness before the heavy rain at the end of September.


    Colour: purple with good intensity.
    Nose: very expressive, refined and elegant, combining fresh, mentholated notes with toasted and spicy aromas.
    Palate: generous and powerful, with good tannic structure and a long fresh, liquoricey finish. A classic, distinguished Pauillac.

  • Vintage 2011

    • 70% Cabernet Sauvignon
    • 30% Merlot

    2011 was one of the hottest, sunniest and, above all, driest years of the last four decades. These weather conditions at first encouraged fast, uniform, very early flowering (two to three weeks earlier than usual), but they then resulted in severe water stress for some plots, and an early start of ripening, during July. August was fairly hot but also rainy, resulting in a high risk of botrytis.

    The harvests were early: the beginning of September for the Merlot and mid-September for the Cabernet. After two rich, concentrated vintages, 2011 brings a return to harmony and balance: a classic vintage.

    Tasting notes (at bottling):

    Colour: shiny, dark ruby.
    Nose: complex and intense, with aromas of tobacco, cigar box, and spices (pepper, nutmeg)
    Palate: full-bodied attack, evolving dense, silky tannins, with a long finish that is both spicy and fresh.

  • Vintage 2010

    • 60% Cabernet Sauvignon
    • 40% Merlot

    In 2010, difficult conditions at the time of flowering of certain varieties (Cabernet and late Merlot) often led to coulure (flower abortion) and millerandage (mixed berry sizes), accompanied by a historic drought.
    The average yield in 2010 was down 15% on 2009.
    This allowed the production of wines of high overall quality with exceptionally rich tannins and high alcohol levels balanced with strong acidity, which will ensure the liveliness and longevity of the wines.The Left Bank wines, the stars of the 2010 vintage, combine power, structure and an attractive freshness on the palate. 2009/2010: a historic double!

    Tasting notes (at bottling)

    Colour: very deep crimson.
    Nose: classically elegant, combining spicy aromas (vanilla, liquorice) with subtle woody notes (mocha). After aeration, the nose opens up to reveal menthol and dried flower aromas.
    Palate: a powerful, well-structured wine on the palate, with dense, silky tannins and a long, fresh finish with hints of menthol.

  • Vintage 2009

    • 65% Cabernet Sauvignon
    • 35% Merlot

    The 2009 vintage met the five conditions necessary for a great year in Bordeaux: homogeneous, early flowering and setting of the fruit (early June) with warm, dry, sunny weather; an equally early start to the ripening process (véraison), beginning in late July, complete ripeness due a hot, dry August and September, and finally dream harvests starting late in September, in perfect weather conditions!
    The 2009 Pauillacs are powerful, rich and concentrated: a great vintage for the AOC!

    Colour: Deep ruby red.
    Nose: Intense, delicate and complex, dominated by notes of leather and wax polish. Jammy aromas of Morello cherries and spices (cinnamon, nutmeg) develop with swirling.
    Palate: A robust, rich wine with powerful, ripe, well-integrated tannins. The finish is very long, with spices and liquorice

  • Vintage 2008

    • 75% Cabernet Sauvignon
    • 25% Merlot

    2008 was the smallest crop since the frost of 1991: 20% less than 2007, for which yields were already lower than usual. After an early bud break, the vines suffered from late frosts that destroyed part of the crop in many vineyards. As in 2007, the 2008 vintage was saved thanks to the particularly favourable, dry, sunny September and October.

    Colour: deep ruby.
    Nose:  discreet, elegant and seductive with woody, vanilla and spicy notes.
    Palate: full-bodied, powerful and well-balanced with a peppery aromatic persistence and lovely freshness on the finish. A classic, distinguished Pauillac with good ageing potential.
