“Bordeaux Collection, a little elegance every day”

An alliance between tradition and wine drinking today

Owner of Château Lafite Rothschild for five generations, the Rothschild family has been associated with the vineyards of Bordeaux since 1868 and today owns Châteaux Lafite Rothschild, Duhart Milon, L’Evangile and Rieussec.

In addition to the wines produced from their prestigious vineyards, the Barons de Rothschild have for many years created a range of more accessible wines for everyday drinking. Initially created at the request of family and friends, these were known as the “Réserves des Barons”. In a continuation of this tradition, Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite) decided to produce the Réserves in four major Bordeaux appellations:: Bordeaux, Bordeaux Blanc, Médoc and Pauillac. In creating the Collection, DBR (Lafite)’s objective is to offer classic Bordeaux wines with immediate charm.

The Vineyard

The Collection approach: the definition of a style

A wine from a family of wine producers with a reputation such as Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite) must be among the best of its kind in every appellation. The wines in the Collection are made under the supervision of oenologist, Diane Flamand, with the same care and attention to detail as is applied to the Grands Vins.

The Pauillac and Médoc wines are produced from DBR (Lafite)’s own vineyards and from neighbouring vineyards. For the Bordeaux appellations, the technical team selects the terroirs and supervises the vinification of the grapes from partner suppliers.

The Bordeaux Rouge and Blanc are made from selections of the finest production in the Entre-Deux-Mers region. As early as possible after fermentation, the DBR (Lafite) team selects the best batches of wine after successive blind tastings, enabling them not only to ensure top quality wine but also to control each stage of the winemaking and ageing. The aim, quite simply, is to produce excellent wines, which truly reflect the DBR (Lafite) house style.

The Cellars

“The DBR (Lafite) style”

A style that favours balance, purity and quality of fruit and the true expression of a terroir. The aim is to produce wines that reveal the freshness and elegance of Bordeaux, rather than wines that are too highly concentrated, or heavily oaked.

The wines are released after several months or years of ageing; the time spent in barrel and the bottling dates are determined by the character of the vintage and the specific appellation. All the Collection wines are ready to drink as soon as they are marketed.

Average annual volume is approximately 3 million bottles (all appellations) and the Collection is available in 30 countries, as the Légende and Saga ranges and a few exclusive labels.
