Left Bank Bordeaux Cup 2015: and the winner is . . .

Each year, the Left Bank Bordeaux Cup brings together the best student palates in the world: this oenological competition for wine clubs from international Universities and Grandes écoles was created in 2002 by the Commanderie du Bontemps de Bordeaux with the aim of allowing discovery of the wines of the Médoc and Sauternes through complex tasting tests and theoretical questions.

Once again this year, the most prestigious international schools were present for the spectacular final which took place in the circular chai of Château Lafite Rothschild: EM Lyon and Paris Dauphine for France, Cambridge and Imperial College London for England, UCLA and MIT for the United States, Hong Kong Baptist University and Sichuan International Studies University for China.

After EDHEC Lille in 2014 and Cambridge in 2013, the Left Bank Bordeaux Cup 2015 was won by the trio of young tasters from Imperial College London, to the great satisfaction of journalist Sarah Kemp, of Decanter magazine, who on this occasion was a member of the Jury alongside Bernard Burtschy (Figaro Magazine).

After the final, a very friendly banquet was held in the Château’s barrel cellar in the present of Baron Eric de Rothschild, enlivened, as is the custom, by another competition of “drinking songs”!

“You have youth and knowledge, and it is always a pleasure to welcome you here for what is undoubtedly my favourite evening of the year,” said Baron Eric de Rothschild to the students who had come together on this occasion.
