Charles Chevallier represented Château Lafite Rothschild at a Masterclass bringing together the five Premiers Crus of the 1855 classification, organized on 13 November 2010 by Decanter. 90 people attended the historic tasting of the “Famous Five” during which no less than ten vintages were tasted, including Château Lafite Rothschild 1988 and 2000.
Asked to describe how the management of a Premier Cru has changed in recent years, Charles Chevallier commented, “The terroir has not changed but we have a much better understanding of the differences between plots. Detailed knowledge of the soil and subsoil and of the effect of climate variations has driven progress at a technical level. This improved understanding also enables better management of operations in the vineyard and an even greater refinement of the wines’ balance and complexity.”
